Going forward in the process, these are the things you will need to actualize your dream carpet padding on your concrete floor:

  • Carpet padding
  • Carpet
  • Knee kicker
  • Wall cutter
  • Epoxy adhesive
  • Carpet gripper
  • Staple gun
  • Masonry tacks (this can be optional)
  • Hammer and
  • Binder bar

Steps on how to install carpet padding on concrete floor

1. Start the process of padding your concrete floor by having the floor cleaned; it is a must that you use all forms of available cleaning like, vacuum cleaning, dust wipe and any other ways of getting the floor totally free from dirt. Should there be moisture hanging around on the surface that needs padding, it can cause damage to your padding process.

2. The next step is to lay carpet grippers of about a half inch from the wall base. You will then need to employ the use of the epoxy adhesive to firmly hold them to the concrete floor that is being padded. Be advised that the carpet grippers are not to be used on the doorways or the thresholds this is because the nails on the grippers can effectively damage your carpet and or have you injuring your feet.

3. The next phase is to unroll and prepare the carpet padding to be laid in a perpendicular direction to the floor in which the carpet will be placed.

4. You are then to go on to the next phase by pulling the padding in a very tight way and then you have it stapled to the carpet grippers. You may allow for excess padding to climb on the carpet gripper as you will eventually have it trimmed to the normally needed padding required for the concrete floor.

4. You will be tasked with stapling the seams with the already provided staple gun as you are about to lay down the carpet pad. This allows the carpet padding to be neatly attached across the floor. It is highly important that the pad is pulled very tightly before the staple process begins as this can damage the neatness of the whole process when you are done.

5. In the next phase, you are to neatly trim the padding so that it doesn’t cover the nails used on the carpet grippers. You will need to firmly adhere the padding to the carpet grippers thereby leaving the nails exposed in the process.

6. The attachment of the carpet edge to the grippers should be carried out by employing the use of the knee kicker, during the process you are to leave a 3 inched size excess of the carpet climbing the wall. The excess carpet can now be trimmed by employing the use of a wall trimmer and be sure that this leaves a precise carpet padding edge.

7. The carpet can now be stretched across your room and also over the gripper on the other side; this should be done with the use of a power stretcher. You should also trim the excess as explained in the step above with the use of wall trimmer. You can then continue to repeat the carpet process over the padding until you have a well-carpeted floor. You are to nail the binder bar to the threshold or any of the areas in the room that the carpet ends. Do this without abutting the wall. Stretch the carpet neatly by employing the use of the knee kicker. This process will link the carpet to the hooks in the binder bar.

7. You are then to neatly cut or trim the carpet so that it rightly fits below the clamp of the binder bar. The next process can now call for the tucking of the carpet under the lip of the metal.

8. You should place the scrap piece of lumber over the top of the binder bar, and then you gently tap it with the use of your hammer to seal the binder bar over the carpet edge.

If your house once had a padded floor and you want to replace it, it is important that you meticulously get rid of the old padding to get the optimum result when you are re-padding your house. To achieve this feat you can easily pull off the padding with your hands, however, if your type of padding is a rebond type of padding, there is every possibility that it will start to crumble into pieces while you are trying to remove it with your hand.

After getting rid of the larger sized padding, you will need to sweep and dust the floor in which you want to place the new padding. Sometimes it is necessary for you to scrape the floor to get a clean surface for the new padding.
